Medical Insurance

Comprehensive medical insurance is offered to all full-time employees after they complete 90 days of employment. Medical coverage is also offered to as-needed, or variable hour, employees that work an average of 30 hours per week over a designated six month period. Coverage is available at different leves including individual and family. For detailed information about the plan, please contact your supervisor or the Human Resource Department.

Eligibility for Medical Insurance

Full-Time Employees

After you have completed 90 days of full time employment, you are eligible to participate in the health insurance plan. You may choose to sign up for this insurance upon meeting the eligibility requirements. If you initially decline coverage, unless you experience a qualifying life event or change of status, you must wait for the annual open enrollment period to take advantage of this benefit at a later date. The open enrollment period is typically in the month of December of each year. The effective date of your insurance when you enroll in December is January 1st.

As-needed / Variable Hour Employees

MedSide has designated look-back periods for determining eligibility for its variable hour employees. If you work an average of 30 hours per week during the designated look-back period, you will be eligible for benefits for the next period. You will be notified by the Human Resource Department when you are eligible to participate.

Cost to the Employee

MedSide pays a portion of the premium for employee only coverage. Dependent coverage is also available to you at different rates. The cost of the monthly premiums will be a deducted from each paycheck on a pre-tax basis. The current premium costs for all these insurances are available in the Human Resource Department.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is also offered to full-time employees by MedSide after 90 days of full time employment. MedSide pays a portion of the monthly individual premium cost, with the rest of the cost being paid by you through a pre-tax payroll deduction. Vision Insurance

Vision insurance is also offered to full-time employees by MedSide after 90 days of full-time employment. Medside pays a portion of the monthly individual premium cost, with the rest of the cost being paid by you through a pre-tax payroll deduction. 401(k)

MedSide offers a 401 (k) program to all employees that are at least 21 years of age and after they complete 1 year of service in which they worked at least 1000 hours. Employees can contribute up to 100% of their salary, subject to certain legal limitations. MedSide will match 100% of the employee’s contribution up to 3% and 50% for an additional 2%. Employee Referral Bonus

Some of our best employees have been recommended by other employees for employment. We value your recommendations; therefore, MedSide has set up a Referral Bonus program for each person referred and hired as a PCA, C.N.A., or HHA; RN or LPN; Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapist; and Physical or Occupational Therapy Assistant. You qualify for this bonus if the individual has not previously worked for MedSide and after the new employee has worked the following required amounts of time:

  • PCA, C.N.A., HHA = 480 hours, or approximately 12 weeks of full-time work
  • Nursing Staff = 50 visits
  • Therapy Staff = 50 visits

You must complete a request for Employee Referral Bonus application and submit to the Human Resource Department for pay. Once the information is verified and the requirements are met, you will receive pay for this bonus. MedSide reserves the right to discontinue this program at any time, in its sole discretion and without notice.

Client Referral Bonus

We recognize that that you know elderly and disabled members of the community that can benefit from our services. We value your recommendations; therefore, MedSide has set up a Referral Bonus program for most individuals referred as clients. You qualify for this bonus if the individual has not previously received services from MedSide, and if the individual is not currently receiving services by another agency; if they are admitted to MedSide as a client; and after the client receives MedSide services for one month. MedSide does not actively solicit or offer payment for the referral of excluded individuals. You must complete a request for Client Referral Bonus application and submit to the Human Resource Department for pay. Once the information is verified, you will receive pay for this bonus. MedSide reserves the right to discontinue this program at any time, in its sole discretion and without notice.

Paid Days Off

Employees may accumulate Paid Days Off (PDO), which combines vacation, sick, and personal leave into a PDO bank. New employees will accumulate PDO beginning the first month of employment but will not qualify to use them until after 6 months of employment. For employees that work on an hourly basis, they will accrue PDO only during those weeks that they work at least 35 hours; they will not accrue PDO for any weeks where they do not work at least 35 hours.

PDO can be redeemed only if prior written notice is given. Requests for time off must be submitted in writing to your supervisor at least 30 days in advance of the requested day off. The approval of the time off is at the discretion of your supervisor and is contingent on the ability to reassign your duties.

Hourly Employees

Employees that work on an hourly basis will accrue PDO based on the following schedule:

PDO can be redeemed only if prior written notice is given. Requests for time off must be submitted in writing to your supervisor at least 30 days in advance of the requested day off. The approval of the time off is at the discretion of your supervisor and is contingent on the ability to reassign your duties.

Upon termination of employment with MedSide, employees are entitled to receive all PDO earned up to the last day of work ONLY if ALL of the following conditions have been met:

  • Successful completion of an Exit Interview
  • 30 day prior notice provided
  • All property and proprietary information returned
  • Written request submitted

Credit Union Membership

MedSide is a member of Georgia’s Own Credit Union, and as a result, all MedSide employees are eligible to enjoy membership in the credit union. For more information on enrollment, please see the Human Resource Department.

Banking Discounts

All employees are eligible to participate in special perks and discounts with certain banks that we have relationships with. For more information on either plan, or enrollment, please see the Human Resource Department.

Employees are eligible for special accounts and discounts offered by Bank of America.

SunTrust at Work

Employees are eligible to open a SunTrust at Work account on their first day of employment. This type of account offers:
